Rationalizing a B
So next week is finals and that means that Jillian is sitting in the corner calculating all the possibilities for her grades.
I’m very upset with one particular grade. My intro to chemistry grade? Yeah, it should be an A. But it’s not. It’s a B. However, I know this stuff. I’m not an expert, but I understand everything and I can easily ace intro to chem things. I deserve an A.
Our grade is based on 5 tests that count for 80% of the grade and one final exam that counts for 20% of our grade. My 5 tests:
100 A
67 D
90 A
92 A
(the 5th test in tomorrow—should be an A of some sort)
Don’t ask me how that 67 got in there because quite frankly I have no friggin clue. Unfair tests I suppose is the reason for that mishap. I missed 4 questions on that test and somehow it got me a 67. How I got A’s on the other tests with such point values I’LL NEVER KNOW.
But anyways, that 67 is a real bitch. I brought my grade from an 83 B to an 87 B. If I get a 100 on tomorrow’s test, I get an A in the class. However, this teacher is…ugh. She takes 1% off of your final grade for every time that you are late. I have been late like 2ish times? So that’s 2%. I was not aware of this till a week or so ago. Life sucks.
So anyways, with a 100 on tomorrow’s test I would recieve a 90 in the class. Minus 2% and WHAT DO YOU KNOW, I get a B. Unless I get a 100 on the cumulative final. Which is nearly impossible.
I’m feeling pretty low about this situation because 1) I have a 90% chance of getting a B in chemistry lab due to the idiocy of my lab teacher and I only allow myself one B per semester. So I can’t get a B in anything else. PERIOD. D: 2) I know this stuff like the back of my hand and have worked really hard to get those A’s. With a B grade that hard work is BAM. GONE.
Yeah I’m pretty upset and unsettled about all of this. But the comments on my teacher that I found on www.ratemyprofessor.com made me feel a lot better :)

Terrible, terrible teacher. She is always mean and never answers questions. I’m sure she’s a smart person, but she does not belong in the classroom. I had to teach myself everything because she did such a terrible job of it. She is absolutely the worst teacher and the meanest person I’ve had the misfortune of meeting.
This prof. IS HORRIBLE. Not an easy A you have to study and teach yourself. She is a mean women who seems to hate her job. Alot of take home quizes that she puts up in angel although sometimes she does pop quizes. There are about 5 or 6 exams. NO EXTRA CREDIT. she not only lost my test but refused to help me when I had questions. very disorganized
One word: AWFUL!!!! God forbid you need help on something because you don’t understand it…. She give you NO HELP WHAT-SO-EVER! She just tells you “You should know this by now” WHAT KIND OF TEACHING IS THAT?!?!?! Don’t take her!!!!!!
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! THE MATERIAL IS NOT HARD BUT THE WAY SHE WORDS THINGS ON TESTS, HER GRADING IS POSSIBLY THE MOST UNFAIR IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED, THE ATMOSPHERE IN THE CLASSROOM IS HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HER GO TO THE GIBBS CAMPUS…IT WILL BE WORTH IT! AND SHE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR HER BIAS WAYS!
This teacher sucks. She is awful. Her tests will have like 10 questions and some questions on the test are worth like 20 points. She leaves class during the lab and when you ask a question she makes you look dumb and says you should know this. Don’t take this teacher!
I would not recommend this instructor unless you are excellent at chem and you can suck up. Plays favorites, won’t answer questions and you CAN NOT get any help from her. Loves to humiliate students she doesn’t like, very unhappy person. She would rather be doing Green Chemistry research, but lacks the education to do so. Needs to quit!
I wouldn’t necessarily say that she is so bad that she needs to quit, but the rest of those comments are 100% true. She does humiliate students when they try to answer a question and she does give unfair tests.
Too bad the people at UF don’t know how hard a certain teacher is. They would have understood my pathetic B :/
